Despite an epic fail on Frankie and Benny’s part the last time I visited in Oxford, we decided to give them a second chance. I’d noticed their menu was flaunting a hugely expanded range of vegan options, which all sounded pretty promising to a vegan junk food fiend, so was hoping that this time our experience would turn out to be better.

I’ve been a Bill’s customer since well before I was vegan, and it’s a good place to have a family gathering as they seem to cater well for a big variety of dietary requirements. I probably haven’t been since last Christmas though, so was happy to be invited along by them to try a couple of their newer vegan dishes on the menu, including their festive specials.
Happily there is at least one vegan option for each course, including nibbles, sides and extras. If you want a coffee or tea, there is soy milk available on request. For a pretty traditional restaurant (we entered to a live pianist) which I wouldn’t have expected to be particularly vegan friendly, it fares surprisingly well, even if there isn’t lots to choose from.
